ZE PAK SA’s commitment to modern and professional management was confirmed by ISO 9001:2000 certification for electricity and heat generation obtained by the company in July 2001. As the next stage of its certification efforts, in March 2002 the company secured certification for its Occupational Health and Safety Management System as compliant with the PN-N-18001 and OHSAS 18001 standards and implemented an Integrated Environmental Safety and Quality Management System compliant with the standards of the ISO 14000 series. Since 2003, modern management of the company has been supported by a mySAP.com IT system, which covers all the key functional areas of the enterprise and supports its business processes. In March 2005, the Supervisory Board of the company adopted the ZE PAK SA Development Strategy 2005–2005. The top priority is for the company to have a power generation base ready for long–term operation in place by 2011. Objectives subsumed under this goal include: constructing a 464 MW power unit at the Pątnów II Power Plant (brought into operation on 31 December 2007), extending the useful life of the four units of the Pątnów I Power Plant, and preparing the power stations of ZE PAK SA to meet future, more stringent environmental requirements. Since 2005, the company’s power plants have been holding a concession for the co-firing of biomass, and thus for the production of ‘green energy’. To achieve the above goal, work has begun to construct two flue gas desulphurization (FGD) systems for the Pątnów I Power Plant and another FGD facility for Pątnów II. This project is carried out by PAK ODSIARCZANIE Sp. z o.o., a member company of the ZE PAK SA Group. Highly efficient FGD facilities will enable ZE PAK SA to meet tighter SO2 emission standards. Another strategic goal is to improve business process efficiency across the ZE PAK SA Group. The key objectives under this heading include reducing electricity and heat generation costs and capturing opportunities presented by the developing energy market. While focusing on its strategic goals and production cost reduction efforts, the Management Board of ZE PAK SA also undertakes administrative/legal measures aimed at obtaining licences and permits required for the proper conduct of the company’s business. In December 2005, by a decision of the Wielkopolskie Provincial Governor, the Adamów Power Plant was granted an Integrated Pollution Prevention and Control (IPPC) Permit for the generation of electricity and heat, and in April 2006 such a permit was issued for the Konin and Pątnów Power Plants. In 2005, the ZE PAK SA power stations were granted an expansion of their existing concession, authorizing the co-firing of biomass, and thus enabling the commencement of the production of “green energy”. ZE PAK SA is the largest business partner for many companies in the Konin and Turek region, and the largest coal buyer for the KWB Konin SA and KWB Adamów SA brown coal mines. In the coming years, we make some of the largest capital investments in the region, which we believe will have a considerable impact on the economic development of the region and provide business not only for local enterprises, but also for companies, producers, and suppliers from the entire Wielkopolska region, all of Poland, and even possibly from abroad. |
