In December 2010, the Management Board of ZE PAK SA signed a contract with a consortium of Remak-Rozruch SA and Nalco Mobotec Polska Sp. z o.o. for the reconstruction of boiler No. 5 at the Pątnów I power plant. The aim of the project is to lower the level of nitrogen oxide emissions to ensure compliance with Polish legal requirements.

The work on unit No. 5 is to be followed by more extensive upgrades to units No. 1–4.
