The power plant in Konin to reconstruct the coal-fired boiler into biomass boiler as part of the energy transition process at ZE PAK SA
Zespół Elektrowni Pątnów-Adamów-Konin S.A. has entered into a contract with Valmet Technologies Oy regarding the so-called “turnkey” implementation of the project for the design and conversion of the K-7 boiler into a fluidized bed boiler operating based on the Bubbling Fluidized Bed (BFB) combustion technology.
The modernized 50 MWe system will generate electricity and act as a backup for the currently working biomass unit at the Konin power plant supplying the city of Konin with heat. After the modernization of the K-7 boiler, a power generation capacity of approx. 100 MWe (2x50 MWe) – using biomass as the basic fuel – will be available at the Konin power plant. The investment is one of the components of the energy transition that has been conducted by the ZE PAK Capital Group for several years. The reconstruction of the K-7 boiler is the main element of the entire transition project. It involves adapting the system, which has previously been used in the production of electricity from lignite, into a biomass combustion installation. The investment will enable Konin to be the first city heated with energy originating exclusively from renewable sources.
The project performance period is 18 months from the date of the contract conclusion (March 27, 2020).
The value of the signed contract is PLN 89.8 million. The carried-out project was submitted by ZE PAK SA to the capacity market auction and obtained a 17-year contract, starting from 2024.
