New professional qualifications in the green economy sector for the Employees of the ZE PAK SA Capital Group

On July 31, 2020, a Cooperation agreement for the maintenance and creation of workplaces was signed between Zespół Elektrowni Pątnów - Adamów - Konin SA (ZE PAK SA) and Agencja Rozwoju Regionalnego SA based in Konin (ARR SA in Konin). The purpose of the Agreement is to establish cooperation between the signatories in one of the most important areas of the just energy transition of Eastern Greater Poland process, which is enabling the employees of the power and coal sector to acquire new and/or expand the existing competences and professional qualifications. The Parties to the Agreement undertook to jointly work out a cooperation formula to create the employees of the ZE PAK SA Capital Group, including in particular the people being at risk of losing their jobs, the possibility to access EU and/or national funds co-financing trainings and vocational courses, including training and consulting projects implemented, among others by Agencja Rozwoju Regionalnego SA (Regional Development Agency) in Konin.

As part of the project, ZE PAK SA committed itself to financing the construction of the RES Training Centre (Centre) from its own resources, enabling the conduct of comprehensive courses and trainings for potential installers of photovoltaic systems, which will be finalized with obtaining certificates issued by the Association of Polish Electrical Power Engineers. The RES Training Centre will be a place that will serve the community of Konin and the Eastern Greater Poland Region. The participants of theoretical and practical trainings that will be conducted as part of the Centre will also be able to apply for funding from the European Social Fund available under the Greater Poland the Regional Operational Program for 2014-2020 and other EU and national funds supporting the acquisition and/or improvement of professional qualifications, especially in the field of renewable energy.

The trainings will be available in particular to the employees of the ZE PAK SA Capital Group (the Group) who are at risk of losing their jobs as a result of the Group's switching from lignite-based to RES energy production.

The gradual limitation of electricity production from lignite by ZE PAK SA is dictated by the difficult market environment in which the Company has to operate, and whose elements are, among others, tightening emission standards, rising prices of CO2 emission allowances, dynamically growing electricity imports to Poland, a decrease in electricity demand caused by the effects of COVID-19, and the growing competitiveness of energy generation based on RES and gas.

The goal of ZE PAK SA is to support its employees in this difficult process, and this is to be achieved, among others, by close cooperation with Agencja Rozwoju Regionalnego SA in Konin, in line with the initiated process of Just Energy Transition of Eastern Greater Poland.

The employees who will take part in the training and receive a certificate issued by the Association of Polish Electrical Power Engineers will be able to find employment in the renewable energy sector in the broadly understood Capital Group. One of the many job opportunities for such people will be the installation of photovoltaic systems sold within the Cyfrowy Polsat and Plus networks under the ESOLEO brand, as well as participation in a project related to the construction of a 70 MW photovoltaic farm in Brudzewo on the grounds belonging to the ZE PAK Group.
